Feeding Our Kids

Nutrition Coordinator

Urbana, Illinois

Part-Time | Approximately 10-12 Hours per Week

Feeding Our Kids is looking for a Nutrition Coordinator to join our team and help keep our weekend food program running smoothly. During the school year, we provide food to 1,400–1,700 children each week at 50 schools throughout Champaign County.  This role is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys planning, organization, working with people, and being part of a community-focused mission.

Food ordering and menu planning are essential to keeping our large-scale program running efficiently, along with working closely with staff and volunteers during food packing and distribution. Food bags are packed every other Monday, with food bins delivered to schools by volunteers on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The position involves working in a warehouse environment, including standing, walking, lifting up to 40 pounds, temperature fluctuations, and hands-on food packing and distribution.

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Part-time hourly: Approximately 10-12 hours per week.
  • Hybrid position: Approximately 60% in person, with more flexibility for remote work during non-food packing weeks.
  • Food packing weeks: In person, Mondays, generally 8:30–10 a.m. and 2–6 p.m.; Tuesdays, generally 1–5 p.m., with some flexibility.
  • Community outreach is scheduled as needed.
  • Seasonal flexibility available as our organization primarily operates in accordance with the school year.
  • Reports to the Executive Director.
  • Available starting January 2027.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan nutritious, balanced, and kid-friendly menus that meet program and dietary needs, including food allergies.
  • Coordinate food ordering and monitor inventory to ensure adequate supplies for large-scale packing operations.
  • Maintain accurate records and generate program reports.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to coordinate and assist with food packing operations and support volunteers.
  • Communicate as needed with schools, food suppliers, and community partners.
  • Participate in community and campus outreach and assist with other program needs as necessary.

Qualifications & Skills

We’re open to a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Experience in a nutrition related field is a plus, but it is not required. The following skills and abilities are required.

  • Organized, motivated, and detail-oriented
  • Strong communicator (written and oral)
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Proficient with google suite, virtual meeting platforms and the ability to learn online ordering and database systems
  • Comfortable working with volunteers and community partners
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Comfortable working in a warehouse environment and participating in hands-on food packing
  • Available primarily on Mondays and Tuesdays
  • Valid Driver’s license and personal transportation
