VOLUNTEERING FOR FALL 2020
Due to COVID-19, we are still limiting the numbers of volunteers at each activity. But we do have MORE activities and opportunities to volunteer.
If you would like to be added to our list of volunteers, please fill out this form. (NOTE: If you have already been volunteering during the COVID shutdown, you don’t need to fill out the form again.)
We will review and then reach out to you and have you schedule specific dates.
Our volunteers are awesome and amazing, and we can’t thank them enough!
All activities are at the Champaign Church of Christ; 1509 W. John St; Champaign, IL 61821 (Map)
Food sorting (Every Monday at 5-7 PM and Every Tuesday at 3-5 PM):
Volunteers repackage food into individual bags and prepare bins full of bags for each school.
Delivery Truck Unloading (2nd Monday month, 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM):
Once a month, we need help unloading and storing the food we order from the store and Eastern Illinois Foodbank. The store delivery is usually at 9:30 AM and the foodbank delivery is usually at 12:30 PM.
School & Home Delivery Volunteers:
The delivery process to the schools is rapidly changing due to COVID. But the plan is to deliver food to the school sites on Wednesday mornings. Additionally, we will likely be doing some anonymous home deliveries for some families on the weekends (You must already be a registered volunteer with the school district to do this). If you are interested in helping with food deliveries, please fill out this interest form.
Physically Isolated Volunteer Opportunities
In these unprecedented times, we know that many of our regular volunteers are unable to help at sorts and activities because they need to avoid groups of people due to the health risks of COVID-19.
However, we have figured out ways such volunteers can still help.
- Helping out at home with tasks such as outreach (phone calls, email, social media) and helping review and edit documentation and proposals.
- Scheduling an off-time for you (alone, as a couple or a family) to volunteer by yourself and work on small tasks like organizing shelves, light cleaning, or counting inventory.
If you are interested in helping us out this way, please fill out this form.
In addition to our usual volunteer events, we are seeking passionate and talented individuals to take on leadership roles. These roles would be great for people that would like to take a more active role in Feeding Our Kids, as well as people that would like to volunteer more, but have trouble coming to our volunteer events that often occur during the work day. The leadership roles include Volunteer Coordinators (assisting with volunteer outreach and management), Sort Captains (running the individual sort rooms as well as the overall food sorts), and serving on various committees.
If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer Leader, please fill out this application form.
We are also looking for businesses, clubs, and churches that would like to partner with us for food drive, fundraising, or awareness events. If you have an idea of how your group and Feeding Our Kids could partner, please fill out our contact form.
Child Volunteer Policy
Currently, we are only allowing children to come as part of a family. And children must be middle school age or older.
Volunteering as a Group – Please contact us instead of signing up
We would love to host your business or community group as volunteers! Please fill out our contact form first so we can better coordinate with you and plan accordingly. Please do this BEFORE signing up online.
Images & Media Policy
Often, we will be taking pictures and video during volunteer events for future use on social media and fundraising campaigns, possibly including release to media outlets. We will always give notice at the events when we are doing so. If you do not want us to take pictures or video of you or your children, please let the photographer know right away. Otherwise, all volunteers are considered to consent to picture and video recording.
