VOLUNTEER POLICIES IN RESPONSE TO CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK:
Due to COVID-19, we will be limiting our volunteer activities and reaching directly out to regular volunteers. We appreciate the desire of the community to help us, but in order to maintain social distancing for the community, we are not doing public sign-ups for our volunteering events until further notice. Thank you for your support & understanding.
Our volunteers are awesome and amazing, and we can’t thank them enough!
All activities are at the Champaign Church of Christ; 1509 W. John St; Champaign, IL 61821 (Map)

Food sorting (Every other Wednesday @ 3-4:30 pm):
Volunteers repackage food into individual bags and prepare bins full of bags for each school.
Inventory Volunteers (Last Saturday of month @ 10am):
Volunteers sort through our inventory, both purchased and donated, count and organize it, and perform other housekeeping tasks as necessary.
Delivery Truck Unloading (2nd Monday month, 9:30 AM & 12:30 PM):
Once a month, we need help unloading and storing the food we order from the store and Eastern Illinois Foodbank. The store delivery is usually at 9:30 AM and the foodbank delivery is usually at 12:30 PM.
School Delivery Volunteers:
We have volunteers who deliver the bags of food to the social workers at each school. Even if your school already has a delivery person, having a back up person is helpful. If you are interested in this opportunity, please fill out this interest form.
In addition to our usual volunteer events, we are seeking passionate and talented individuals to take on leadership roles. These roles would be great for people that would like to take a more active role in Feeding Our Kids, as well as people that would like to volunteer more, but have trouble coming to our volunteer events that often occur during the work day. The leadership roles include Volunteer Coordinators (assisting with volunteer outreach and management), Sort Captains (running the individual sort rooms as well as the overall food sorts), and serving on various committees.
If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer Leader, please fill out this application form.
We are also looking for businesses, clubs, and churches that would like to partner with us for food drive, fundraising, or awareness events. If you have an idea of how your group and Feeding Our Kids could partner, please fill out our contact form.
Child Volunteer Policy
Children are always welcome to volunteer. However, we would appreciate keeping numbers manageable, therefore please try to keep these guidelines in mind: <7 years old, 2 children per adult; 8-10 years old, 3 children per adult; 11-13 years old, 4 children per adult.
Older teens can come unsupervised, but need to bring a completed permission slip and medical-authorization form in case of emergency. This can be downloaded here.
Volunteering as a Group – Please contact us instead of signing up
We would love to host your business, community, or youth group as volunteers! Please fill out our contact form first so we can better coordinate with you and plan accordingly. Please do this BEFORE signing up online. We will likely schedule you on a Tuesday afternoon/evening or a Saturday morning.
Images & Media Policy
Often, we will be taking pictures and video during volunteer events for future use on social media and fundraising campaigns, possibly including release to media outlets. We will always give notice at the events when we are doing so. If you do not want us to take pictures or video of you or your children, please let the photographer know right away. Otherwise, all volunteers are considered to consent to picture and video recording.
